I’ve decided to move my blog to it’s new home here and my last post about it all is here

I’ve moved servers and upgraded to Wordpress 2.5 and all is looking good so far! I’ll post an update on the move and what I think of WP 2.5 soon, but initial thoughts are it’s very very good and just what I need.

Goodbye Green, Hello Pink and Black :)

Holy Cow! I saw this trailer a month ago whilst waiting for a film in the cinema and have been waiting for it to hit the net :) … and the new series has the return of Rose as well as Donna and Martha, bring it on!

I’ve really struggled over the first few months of this year with my photography due to many reasons, infact apart from the odd family photograph it’s be non existent! So I decided March was the month to kick-start myself again and starting taking more photo’s and try different things, plus I bought myself a new Speedlite 430EX Flash unit, so what better excuse!

One of the reason’s for the lack of photo’s was the fact that we decided to decorate the cloakroom at home, which went from some new tiles and a lick of paint to a whole new set of toilet, sink and taps as well as the tiles and paint! I’m really pleased with the new cloakroom design as we spent a lot of time over the design and colours and I’ll be posting some before and after shots shortly if anyone is interested or just having trouble sleeping one night :)

Cold 'n' Brown

One outcome of the redesign was the fact that we decided on having one mixer tap on the new sink rather than individual hot and cold taps (you’d have thought one mixer tap would have been far cheaper than two new individual taps, wouldn’t you, but that’s another story!) So this left us with the old taps and rather than throw them away we decided as they are the same design as the other taps in the house and in better condition, we’d clean them up and keep them, just in case! So this week I’m looking for inspiration for something to shoot with my new Flash and I notice the two taps lying around and the rest they say is… Untapped Potential!

Two Become One

There’s nothing special about the set up of these shots and all were taken in my kitchen with my tripod and a black desktop mat as the backdrop and the 430EX flash used on some, you can see how basic the set up was here! Other than that the photo’s are all naturally taken and then processed in Lightroom, with the odd dust spot removed and tags added. The glint of sun on the tap in some shots is natural and I was just very lucky that while taking some shots the sun started to shine and hit the taps at just the right spot and I caught it! The golden glow of the taps in some is the effect of the sunlight and flash lighting up the kitchen, which is a cream colour, again a lucky side effect of the lighting in the room.

So I went from playing with my new flash and some taps, to getting a set of great photo’s that I am really pleased with and never expected to come out so good or look so professional for me! Who would have thought a set of taps could look so different! It also made me come to the conclusion that I’m much better at taking shots of inert objects like taps, action figures etc than moving real life objects, so maybe that’s my forte or that I just need to practice more on the moving living things! Anyway hope you enjoy looking at Untapped Potential as much as I did taking them :)
